Hi, I am the little girl. I’m special, as I’m the star of my very own book series (OK, technically only one book so far, but there is one more on the way, and plenty more written besides). I’d like to welcome you to number one in my blog series, where I’ll give you a glimpse into what makes me, well, me. I’ll introduce you to my friends and family; I’ll explain my interests to you. Holidays are so important to me, and I’ll briefly tell you why; Be it Halloween, Easter or Christmas, each one can make me cry (with joy). All in all, this first piece of writing aims to bring my world to you.

My Friends

I have many friends at school, but I don’t have anything fascinating to say about that. No, I’d rather talk about my adventure pals, with whom I venture far and wide (well, my daddy says the correct word is whom, anyway). My 3rd joint best friend (stay tuned for the other two), and my much-loved companion, is the owl. He goes everywhere with me and is such a comfort, I love seeing him flap alongside me. Speaking of flapping, my winged horse has been such a help; she takes me far and wide, allowing me to see such wondrous sites (on earth and far beyond).

There is my butler teddy bear and my Queensguard bulldog, they’re so helpful! My trapezing bears are so much fun and my wizard twin is so mysterious. I have that many princess friends, I just can’t keep up; while the strangest ones are my colourful aliens (who are far more welcoming than the sharks that just need to be fed!). My paradise island is home to my fairy friends as well as a collection of unicorns (who can’t use forks at dinner), and my animal friends have so many quirky features. There’s swinging monkeys and slithering snakes; there’s beavers that build all day (such hard workers!), there’s waddling penguins leaping leopards and giraffes eating leaves (and let’s not talk about the yeti too much). Despite all the above, however, there are certainly few I love more than...

My family

My mum is my 2nd joint best friend. She is my hero, I call her Supermum. No matter what, my mum is always there to help me. It’s like when there was a monster in my tent, or when my tent was being attacked by unknown forces, or when my sister tries to ruin my parties. My mum makes the yummiest dinners (don’t tell dad!) and she’ll watch my favourite shows with me (even the one with the annoying song). She’s my cherished dress up partner, and I enjoy when she sings with me and dad (he can be so funny!). Although what I most cherish about my mum is that she tells the very best bedtime stories (don't tell dad!)

Then there’s my dad; he’s the most caring person I know (although he can be a monster). He winds me up to no end with his tormenting, and he tickles me until I’m out of breath. Dad’s always there to make me laugh when I’m feeling a bit down, and he always badgers me to do my homework (then helps me when I struggle). He makes bath time much more entertaining, as he plays his silly game; then he gives the very best bedtime hugs and kisses (don't tell mum!).

My sister is such a crazy cat, she is the biggest of rascals. When I try to play a game, she always wants to get involved (which usually means I must change direction). She always wants a cuddle, she just loves being close (I love being close, too). At tea times she is messy (at lunch and breakfast times as well) and she can have the shortest of tempers (the reason, who can tell?). All in all, she can be a lot; but I love my sister greatly. She butts into my adventures, although I must admit she often makes them more exciting; I think she’s my joint best friend, too (sometimes, anyway).

Interests

Camping is my absolute favourite thing to do of course; I camp in the garden and I camp in the lounge, I even camp in the basement. I like to camp in the living room with my mum and dad (although most of the time they’re on the couch) and I like to camp in the bedroom with all my friends (many of which are mentioned above). One day, when I’m older, my dad says he’ll take me on a proper camping trip (in the woods behind our house); maybe I’ll be able to meet the owl that goes “twit twoo” when I’m in bed at night – then I can introduce it to my best friend.

Almost as good as camping, I love to go on adventures (and what’s best, I can sometimes do this from my pink princess tent!). I can look down at the earth from my Pegasus and I can glide through an underwater world in my submarine; or it can just be in my TV. I have been known to get involved with fierce battles and I’ve met my alien friends on the moon. Once, I even ran off with the circus; what an exciting day that was!

Then there are my tea parties, full of thrills and spills and elegance. There are so many characters I can spend time with, like the monster, the dragon and mum. Royalty comes from all over too, complete with their entourage (such pretty dresses!). I welcome bats and cats and frogs and dogs, as well as a unicorn that can’t use cutlery (did I already tell you about him?). What I like the most about my tea parties however, is that I get to dress up in my own beautiful dresses; although my sister always picks the scary ones (they don’t quite fit, but we let her wear them anyway).

Holidays

I adore every holiday. My favourite must be Christmas, but there are parts of each that make them special. Wrapping up warm and sitting by the fire at wintertime is so wonderful (although I wish it would snow more often), and I love reading about all the world’s Christmas traditions. The pooping log in Spain seems very funny, while the spider-webbed Christmas trees of Eastern Europe sound scary (shouldn’t they be out at Halloween instead?); and the Pohutukawa tree looks so pretty (at least from the pictures I’ve seen). Of course, I appreciate my presents from Santa (particularly when they include new friends for me), but giving them out is even better (especially the ones I’ve made!);

Chocolate is my favourite treat, so Easter is another winner. It’s not just the chocolate though. It’s the hunt that mum and dad set up every year and it’s my delightful bunny friend. It’s the end to what my parents have given up (which sometimes makes them grouchy) and it’s the period that many will come together and celebrate their beliefs. Easter is cheery, it’s uplifting, it’s fun. Easter provides such a pleasing day (as long as I’m not sick from too much chocolate like last year!).

Speaking of sweet treats, I cannot forget Halloween, the spookiest of holidays! It’s where monsters, ghouls, witches and more (sometimes princesses) come out to play. It’s the day with the most adventure and it’s certainly the one with the most scares (my sister loves it!). Dressing up is almost the law on Halloween, which is when I’m in my element (that, and when I’m in my tent). I like to rank my top three outfits, but I know each one is amazing to that person. However, my owl friend does often get quite afraid, and will not always come out with me.

No matter what holiday it is, I always decorate my tent. With banners and baubles for Christmas (I even have my own little tree), with bunnies, chicks and eggs for Easter, and with cobwebs, statues and more for Halloween. I worship the holidays.

So, there it is, me in a nutshell. I hope you enjoy my stories and logs. There’s plenty to see, there’s plenty to read, and there’s plenty to experience. I know that I’ve found it all most exciting.
